Choose Time Over Stuff

Have you noticed the Halloween stuff alongside the Christmas stuff while you are shopping? Retailers work hard to get us in the shopping spirit early. It makes it difficult, as a parent, to reign in your kid's "I want it!" inclination. Now, early in the extended retail holiday season, may be a good time to have family conversations about what you value as a family. Talk about why these tempting items are in the stores now. The stores want you to buy much and buy often. This is a teachable moment to discuss spending habits and living within your means. Show them that happiness is not in alignment with how much or how frequently you spend at the stores.

Instead of spending $$, spend time. Play with them; listen to them; comfort them; celebrate with them; love them. Choose time over stuff.
